Our Ancient & Eternal War With God
Our battle with God
Our ancient and eternal battle with God. Yet, it is a strange sort of battle. Because only we are fighting.
“Who usurps the place of God and takes it for himself now has a deadly “enemy.” And he must stand alone in his pro- tection, and make himself a shield to keep him safe from fury that can never be abated, and vengeance that can never be satisfied.”
”How can this unfair battle be resolved? Its ending is inevitable, for its outcome must be death. How, then, can one believe in one’s defenses? Magic...must help. Forget the battle. Accept it as a fact, and then forget it. Do not remember the impossible odds against you. Do not remem- ber the immensity of the “enemy,” and do not think about your frailty in comparison. Accept your separation, but do not remember how it came about. Believe that you have won it, but do not retain the slightest memory of Who your great “opponent” really is. Projecting your “forgetting” onto Him, it seems to you He has forgotten, too.””
The Ego’s Ancient War Against God
Through our normal daily activities the ego is carrying out its ancient attack on God.
an ancient war “Surely you realize the ego is at war with God.”
The ego does everything it can to survive and keep itself enthroned in our mind forever. “Eternalness is the one function the ego has tried to develop.
The ego is trying to kill God. “God is dead”. To prove it is more real than God The ego is trting to replace God
We try to make others guilty, but ultimately we are trying to make God guilty. “the attempt to make guilty is always directed against God.”
The Denial of God
Atheism - denial
And we are all in at least some part atheists
The World is Our Attack on God The World is our Proof that there is no God
The World is an attack on God and a place for us to be apart and hide out. A place where we could be in fear and separation, we wanted to be apart and alone… To hide from god’s love, and what we believe will be god’s punishment
- “The world was made as an attack on God. It symbolizes fear. And what is fear except love’s absence? Thus the world was meant to be a place where God could enter not, and where His Son could be apart from Him” (W-plI.3.2:1-4).
The world was made to be the diametric opposite of God. it is ruled by fear, for fear is the opposite of God’s Nature of Love.
the world was made to be a place where God and His Love are totally absent. By living in such a place, we seem to be apart from God. We therefore insanely try to reinforce our own existence and power…
Living in an unloving world seems to prove that God is absent from us and we are apart from God. The world is apparent proof of separateness from God.
The classic atheist denial of god is a macro/micro re-enactement of the ego’s denial of God. “I hate you and you don’t exist and you have no power over me”
